Bella Luna Spa review

Last friday i went for a Power Slim Body Massage at Bella Luna. Well not that I want a power slim massage, it came free  when i opt for an electronic billing for my citibank bill. I have 2 choices: a power slim body massage or a facial. Since I have never tried wrap and stuff, I decided to try that massage.

I was greeted by friendly smiles and relatively good service when I enter Bella Luna. After a few min of talking + a short survey (required by citibank), I was asked to lock up my bag in the locker and head into the treatment room. Before I start with my treatment, I was weighed. Next my masseuse passed me a disposable underwear and shower cap to change into. Unlike other spa I have been to, there was no robes.

The treatment, Power Slim Body Massage consist of a 30min full body massage + 30min steam relaxer (i think that’s what it is called). It is supposed to help you relax and at the same time detox you. Sounds good right? Now that is the problem with most spas. Getting wrapped and steamed will help your body lose sweat. Afterall the only thing that is allowed to pass through your skin is sweat. (ok, oil can pass through too but steaming will not lose oil.) So basically such slimming treatment will detox you of nothing but sweat. I’ll not go into details about detox and slimming here. I will let you know more bout how the treatment was done instead.

The masseuse started the massage using a very different oil. According to her, the oil is actually pretty useful for slimming. Generally, the massage was pretty relaxing but there were times that I was left feeling cold when she did not warm the oil with her palms before putting on me. Like cold oil on your back, that’s not really nice.  Also, the towel that she used to cover my eyes was not warmed. Even the home spa I went to last time uses warm towel so I felt it was somewhat unprofessional to not use a warm towel.

After the massage, she covered me in some muddish like thing and wrap me up. Once again, she covered my eyes with a towel that was not warm while she set up the steam relaxer. Before she left, she handed me a bell so that I can call for help if it gets too hot. There I was, lying like a mummy for the next 30 mins. It wasn’t really nice cause you can’t really move. I was feeling itchy halfway due to the dripping of my sweat all over me. So it really wasn’t very comfy.

After about 30 mins, she came in and unwrap me. What a relieve for I was dying from itch. She then told me that it was done and I can go shower up. They had a dresser (or rather a dressing station) with hairdryer, comb and stuff which I felt was very nice. However, my makeup pouch was in my bag which was in locker room. I couln’t touch up my makeup.. So what’s the point of having a dresser in the room?  They really should just place the locker or even a cupboard in room instead of having a locker room.

When I went out to collect my bag, I was served with ginger tea. Another consultant then came over and talk to me about their packages available. It was kind of hard selling to me for their packages were so flexible like it was created on the spot. That was not cool to me. But I have to say that as much as they are hard selling, they were still very friendly and not pushy. So if you say no, they will not keep asking you about the same thing.

Overall I’d rate it a 3 out of 5. I’ll go for it again if it’s free but I really don’t think  it is worth $180 (or is it $150) for that hour plus slimming massage.

If you are interested to check out their website at http://www.mybellaluna.com/index.html
They are currently having a promo : S$28 Power Slim Body Massage. If you really like wrapping, steaming and stuff, you can really try this out. For $28 is quite worth it.

What a trainer should not do in gym

5 01 2010

Time: 18 10
Mood: slacking

For those who often frequent clubfit gyms, you will know that the trainer/staff there will always warn you bout what you should not be doing in the gym should you be perfoming such “dangerous” activies. BB has been a regular who receive constant reminders on what he should not be doing ( stuff like no cleaning of bars in a certain direction and many other stupid things). Most of the activities we were told not to do were pretty pointless. (we were once told that sports specific exercises were not allowed while we were doing snatches. But honestly, what’s in e gym is not sport specific?) that aside, what i saw today made me wonder if these trainers have any common sense at all!

I think one of the things that one should NEVER, never ever do is to talk to someone who is in the midst of his workout. I saw this today. Wanted to snap a pic of it but too bad, my camera was not with me. It started when someone dropped the bar onto the safety of the smith machine & made a very loud sound. The trainer/ staff upon hearing it, walk up to a group of boys at the smith and talk to the boy who was halfway into his work set!!! Like omg!! Imagine the distraction it could bring.. After realizing it wasn’t the boys who made that sound, he quickly walk to another smith and talk to the guy who was also halfway into his work set!! Like omg X 2!!!

Are the staffs there even trained? This is not the first time they did such stupid act. Like seriously.
Mayb is time for sports council to reconsider the criteria for hiring. Or at least retrain their staff with some basic knowledge of working out…

Oh well…

2) A holiday trip to... all over the world! ok basically almost any country as long as i get to travel. taiwan, hong kong, bali,  japan, us, europe, australia, anywhere!

3) A new canon power shot. what more i need to say. the camera says it all.

4) My M)phosis romper. Which I wanted to get since my birthday but have not=[ (It's grey halter with black collar for those who intend to get it for me=] )

5) VS undies and bras! I was just browsing through the catalog they mailed to my house and their undies and bras from VS Pink is just so tempting. I want it all! ok maybe that’s too much to ask for. how about just 5? LOL

6) I need a new mascara. Maybeline is good enough for me=]

7) I need more clothes! Read: VS, AE, Forever 21, Dorothy Perkins, Cotton On and some that i can’t rmb right now.

8) Last but not least, I wish for my Santa Claus to grant all my wishes above!

McDonald’s Quarter Pounder with Cheese anyone?

14 11 2009

Time: 10 39

Mood: laughing my ass off about an article which I’ll blogging bout now.

BB told me bout some article he read recently. It’s about how screwed up crossfit theory is sometimes. It didn’t catch my interest until I heard something about McDonald’s Quarter Pounder with cheese.

Look at the burger above: a Quarter Pounder with Cheese. Would any normal sane person tell you that this is a good choice of food? I guess not. Don’t be too sad yet, you bunch of fast food junkies. There’s good news! Apparently, Crossfit agrees that this gigantic, sinful looking burger is a much better choice of food than US government-approved “healthy” breakfast of oatmeal, fruit, and juice! Surprise!

I know US government, in fact most government-approved food is rubbish (for singapore, simply take a look at the choice of food that has the healthier sign on it or take a lot at their recommended food pyramid). But seriously,  Mc’s burger over oatmeal, fruit and juice? Their theory for that : simply because the former fits the protein-carb-fat block values better.

You may ask “what’s block values about?” It is simply how much protein, carb and fat we should take in a meal. To simplify, we should in general take more protein than fat and carb whenever you exercise to stay relatively healthy.

Now we look at the choices : (a) Mc’s burger, (b) oatmeal, fruit and juice.  Obviously (b) contains almost everything carb while (a), looking at the amount of protein, carb and fat, will look like it fits the block values better. So now you fast food junkies rejoice. But before you do so, read this: The above statement (bout (a) being a better food choice) is absolutely delusional and is made by somebody who completely forgets about the fact that some food is NOT meant to be considered as food choices at all. And Mc’s burger, is one of them (heard of a six-yr-old Mc cheese burger?)

Yes, we should take into consideration the amt of carb-fat-protein intake each meal. But when we do so, please do not forget that we have to choose from a range of healthy food choices, not anything and everything. Process carb in general is not good and should avoid at all cost. And I know it is impossible to avoid process carb in this new age era, but you can try to whenever possible. Start by staying away from fast food. I personally have not eaten it for more than a month and whenever I did in the past (after I know a little on health and fitness), I ate a little of its fries.

A clarification here, I do not say that I choose the healthier food choices and I don’t eat junk. In fact quite the opposite. My food choices are bad as I have a soft spot for carb. My heart just went melting whenever I see nice looking carb like cakes and ice cream. I indulges in fries here and there too (little bit of fries like mentioned above).  But at least I don’t go around saying that a Quarter Pounder is good.

My advice, if you still want to believe that quarter pounder with cheese is a good food choice, join Crossfit.

=p
