Mood: laughing my ass off about an article which I’ll blogging bout now.
BB told me bout some article he read recently. It’s about how screwed up crossfit theory is sometimes. It didn’t catch my interest until I heard something about McDonald’s Quarter Pounder with cheese.

Look at the burger above: a Quarter Pounder with Cheese. Would any normal sane person tell you that this is a good choice of food? I guess not. Don’t be too sad yet, you bunch of fast food junkies. There’s good news! Apparently, Crossfit agrees that this gigantic, sinful looking burger is a much better choice of food than US government-approved “healthy” breakfast of oatmeal, fruit, and juice! Surprise!
I know US government, in fact most government-approved food is rubbish (for singapore, simply take a look at the choice of food that has the healthier sign on it or take a lot at their recommended food pyramid). But seriously, Mc’s burger over oatmeal, fruit and juice? Their theory for that : simply because the former fits the protein-carb-fat block values better.
You may ask “what’s block values about?” It is simply how much protein, carb and fat we should take in a meal. To simplify, we should in general take more protein than fat and carb whenever you exercise to stay relatively healthy.
Now we look at the choices : (a) Mc’s burger, (b) oatmeal, fruit and juice. Obviously (b) contains almost everything carb while (a), looking at the amount of protein, carb and fat, will look like it fits the block values better. So now you fast food junkies rejoice. But before you do so, read this: The above statement (bout (a) being a better food choice) is absolutely delusional and is made by somebody who completely forgets about the fact that some food is NOT meant to be considered as food choices at all. And Mc’s burger, is one of them (heard of a six-yr-old Mc cheese burger?)
Yes, we should take into consideration the amt of carb-fat-protein intake each meal. But when we do so, please do not forget that we have to choose from a range of healthy food choices, not anything and everything. Process carb in general is not good and should avoid at all cost. And I know it is impossible to avoid process carb in this new age era, but you can try to whenever possible. Start by staying away from fast food. I personally have not eaten it for more than a month and whenever I did in the past (after I know a little on health and fitness), I ate a little of its fries.
A clarification here, I do not say that I choose the healthier food choices and I don’t eat junk. In fact quite the opposite. My food choices are bad as I have a soft spot for carb. My heart just went melting whenever I see nice looking carb like cakes and ice cream. I indulges in fries here and there too (little bit of fries like mentioned above). But at least I don’t go around saying that a Quarter Pounder is good.
My advice, if you still want to believe that quarter pounder with cheese is a good food choice, join Crossfit.
