As some of ya would know, I am pretty concern with my weight and shape and stuff. So I read up a bit (ok, i cheated, I got people to read for me and tell me) about the BIG issue most girls concern about – the Fatty Issue. Below are some myths and facts that I have gathered so far.

Myth 1:

Cardio workout is the best way to burn fat.

Fact 1:

Cardio workout is the best way to burn fat, if and only if you just want to look stick thin. Cause cardio not only burns fats, it burns everything else too. That means your muscles are being burn as well. Another thing about cardio is that it burns your fats only during the duration of time you spent doing cardio. If you run for an hour, you only burn fats, as well as your muscles, for an hour. This is unlike doing weights training, which helps in increasing your basal metabolic rate, thus you burn more even though you exercise much less.

Myth 2:

Weights training add bulk.

Fact 2:

I guess most people believe that because of body builders. And I have to agree that to add bulk (in terms of muscle, not fat), the only way is by doing weights. But what most people don’t know is that for a girl, we can’t add much mass. We don’t have much mass to begin with. And more importantly, we lack the most important hormone that aids in adding mass – Testosterone. This important hormone is mainly found in guys and the lack of it in females make us difficult to become bigger when we do weights.

Myth 3:

Doing 1kg bicep curl many many MANY times is going to slim and tone your arms.

Fact 3:

Firstly, one got to know that bulk is added by doing many reps. That is how most body builders workout. They use a lighter weight with more sets and more reps. So if you hold a 1kg dumbell doing 100 bicep curls, the only result you will get is a bigger arm (that is if your arms don’t break first). Stop wasting time and do something heavier and more full body exercises! It works much better and it shows that we girls are really not wussy.

Well with this I hope most you understand more about exercising. Do understand what is your objective and choose your workout carefully. I will share more on this topic once I find out more and got more time.
